Time is the major obstacle for exercise.
After years of deteriorating health and popping pills and using other kinds of medication and medical stop-gap measures, some people finally decide that it is time to do the only sure fire proven way to maintain and improve health: EXERCISE.
DIFFICULT TO START AND STAY ON AN EXERCISE
They generally know how difficult it is to START
on an exercise program and that it is even more difficult to STAY on an exercise
THEY SET THEMSELVES UP FOR FAILURE
Now they immediately set themselves up for failure by deciding on some sort of exercise that requires far too high a cost of time. They cannot be faulted for that because the commercially offered methods of exercise all require lots of time. They buy exercise equipment for the home and only 8% of home exercise equipment is used on a regular basis. They buy health club memberships and only 12% of members go to the health club on a regular basis. The cost of time is far too high.
WHAT IS A REASONABLE COST OF TIME FOR EXERCISE?
A reasonable cost of time for doing anything in life is an amount of time that the vast majority of people would be willing to spend for the perceived benefits gained.
The vast majority of people brush their teeth for a couple of minutes each day. They find it a reasonable time investment for protecting their teeth from early decay. But imagine that you would have to go to your neighbor's house right next door to brush your teeth every day. It would guaranteed be the end of teeth brushing for the vast majority of people. Or alternatively imagine that teeth brushing would require 20 minutes per day. It would be the end of teeth brushing for at least 90% of people as well.
The time required for brushing teeth is 4 minutes if done manually and 2 minutes if done with a variety of mechanical teeth brushing machines on the market today. That is a cost of time that most people can live with and consequently the majority of people brush their teeth on a daily basis.
The vast majority of people do not exercise because the minimum time requirement for exercise with conventional methods of exercise at home is 15 to 20 minutes and the time requirement for most home exercise programs is 30 to 60 minutes. Health club memberships require the most amount of time because of the additional commute time back and forth to the club. The result is that 8% of people use their home exercise equipment and 12% of people that own health club memberships go to to the club. The slightly higher percentage for health clubs as compared to home exercise is due to the social aspect of meeting people at the club.
SO WHAT IS THE SOLUTION FOR EXERCISE?
If exercise were institutionalized for employed people to do at their place of work, such as it is the custom at many companies in Japan, then people would get paid for the time they devote to exercise. It would bring the cost of health care way down and people would do the exercise because it is part of the work requirement.
The solution for exercise is to reduce the time requirement and for companies to incorporate exercise for their employees into the daily employment requirement.
Our ROM (stands for Range Of Motion) is a big breakthrough in time requirement for exercise because it will give ANYONE a complete workout in 4 minutes. It is actually a much too big leap in progress for people to accept it as true. The more you tell people about the ROM the less they believe it. The complete workout you get on the ROM in 4 minutes flat is a combination of all three components of a fully balanced conventional workout routine that gives you all of the results obtained from the following:
1. The cardio benefits from 20 to 45 minutes of aerobic cardio exercise.
2. The strength and muscle toning benefits from 45 minutes weight training.
3. The flexibility benefits to joints and tendons from 20 minutes of stretching.
HOW IS ALL OF THIS POSSIBLE. TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE
The objective of exercise is to slightly traumatize the parts of your body that you want to improve health on. To improve muscle strength and muscle tone you must traumatize the muscle fibers. After doing that you give the muscles a 48 hour rest to repair and recover and to get stronger in the process. The muscles you build with the ROM machine are the long lean kind that swimmers have, not the shorter bulky kind that body builders develop. To improve the health and capability of tendons and joints for increased flexibility and limberness you must traumatize (hurt) them slightly from which they will emerge stronger and improved after a 48 hour recovery period. To improve the function of your cardiovascular system (heart, lungs, blood vessels) you must place a slight over-demand on them from which they will emerge stronger and improved after a 48 hour recovery period.
There is no particular length of time requirement in which you can accomplish the slight damage or slight over-demand to all these systems in your body. You can for example induce slight trauma by doing a certain exercise at 50% of your maximum capacity for 90 minutes or you can do it by exercising at 80% of your maximum capacity for 25 minutes or you can do it in 4 minutes by exercising at 105% at slight over-capacity. Very highly trained athletes can induce trauma to the target parts of the body they want to improve in even less than 4 minutes because they have more strength in their muscles and can create the required "slight damage" faster with those stronger muscles.
